As the seasons turn and the air grows crisper, there’s nothing quite as magical as sipping a drink that celebrates the changing landscape—whether it’s a warm brew in hand or something a little more spirited. This Elderflower & Fig Cocktail is my perfect pairing of floral elegance and fruit-filled indulgence. It features the delicate sweetness of elderflower, made even more divine with my homemade Elderflower Cordial, and the lush, ripe flavor of fresh figs—handpicked from my garden, of course! The combination of these two ingredients feels like a taste of the garden in every sip.
But this isn’t just any cocktail…
Figs are a symbol of abundance and fertility in many cultures, and they’re packed with fiber, antioxidants, and minerals like potassium and magnesium, which help keep your heart and digestion in harmony. Elderflowers, meanwhile, have been used for centuries in herbal medicine to soothe and cleanse, known for their calming effects on the body and their immune-boosting properties. Together, these humble botanicals create a drink that’s as good for the soul as it is for the senses.
Here’s how to bring a little magic into your glass:
Ingredients:
✨ 30ml of your favorite gin (I adore using the Fig Gin from Glen Ewin Estate in the gorgeous Adelaide Hills, but you can use any gin you love—or swap it for sparkling water for a refreshing non-alcoholic version!)
✨ 15ml Herbs & Homesteading Elderflower Cordial
✨ 15ml fresh lemon juice
✨ 100ml sparkling water or tonic
✨ A handful of fresh garden herbs (I used rosemary, thyme, chamomile, and mint)
✨ Fresh figs, sliced (because why not add a bit of garden sweetness?)
✨ Edible flowers for garnish (optional but oh-so-pretty!)
Method:
1. Muddle your fresh herbs gently in a glass. Let them release their aromatic oils and add a touch of magic to the drink.
2. Add ice to your glass—plenty of it, so the magic stays cool!
3. Pour in your gin (or sparkling water for a non-alcoholic version), followed by the Elderflower Cordial and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.
4. Top it all off with sparkling water or tonic and give it a gentle stir.
5. Garnish with fresh figs, edible flowers, and a sprig of mint or rosemary to add that extra bit of whimsy.
6. Sip slowly and enjoy the sunshine (or the golden glow of autumn, depending on where you are)!
This cocktail is perfect for a quiet evening on the porch, a gathering of friends, or whenever you want to feel the magic of the garden in your glass. It’s a little piece of nature’s enchantment, served on a silver platter.
